David John Tennant (né McDonald; born 18 April 1971) is a Scottish actor. His accolades include two BAFTA Scotland Awards, two Emmy Awards and nominations for three Laurence Olivier Awards. Raised in Paisley, Tennant trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and began his acting career primarily working in theatre. His first major television role was in the BBC drama Takin' Over the Asylum (1994).

He gained further recognition for the serials Blackpool (2004) and Casanova (2005), and appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).
