Daniel Mendoza (5 July 1765 – 3 September 1836) was an English bare-knuckle boxer and the first Jewish English heavyweight champion, who was a popular prizefighter in late 18th-century Britain. He played a significant role in advancing the scientific technique in boxing by publishing two books on the subject (The Art of Boxing and The Modern Art of Boxing) and by conducting frequent public exhibitions. Mendoza was an inaugural inductee into both the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1981 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. In 2017, he was inducted into the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame.
