Early Foundations in Tasmanian Football
Christian Fagan began his journey in Australian rules football entirely within his home state of Tasmania. His playing career spanned from 1978 to 1990, where he accumulated over 260 games as a midfielder and forward pocket for various clubs. Following his playing days, he launched his coaching career by serving as the inaugural coach of the Tassie Mariners U18 team between 1995 and 1997.
Ascension Through Administration and Coaching Roles
Fagan built significant experience in major clubs, first joining Melbourne in 1998 as reserves coach. His tenure at Hawthorn saw him take on roles including Head of Coaching and Development (2008–2013) and General Manager of Football Operations (2013–2016), contributing to the Hawks' four premiership victories. He was appointed senior coach of the Brisbane Lions in October 2016, marking his debut as the oldest coach in AFL history at 55.

As senior coach of the Brisbane Lions, Fagan successfully guided the club through a major rebuild, leading them to their first finals appearance since 2009 in 2019. His peak success came with three consecutive premierships in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
