Aemilianus
Roman Emperor who achieved victory against Goths before his death in 253 AD.
Chronology: 207 – 253
Origins & Early Journey
Marcus Aemilius Aemilianus began his career as a commander of the Moesian troops. His military prowess was evident when he secured a significant victory against the invading Goths, an achievement that directly led to his acclamation as emperor by his own legions.
Innovation & Iconic Era
Following his military success, Aemilianus rapidly advanced to Roman Italy. There, he faced and defeated the reigning Emperor Trebonianus Gallus at the pivotal Battle of Interamna Nahars during August of 253 AD. This victory marked the peak of his military career and his claim to the imperial throne.
Legacy & Impact
Despite his recent triumphs, Aemilianus's reign was tragically short-lived. Only a month after his victory, his authority crumbled when Valerian proclaimed himself emperor and marched against him with superior forces, resulting in Aemilianus's death at the hands of his own men.
